Corrections to "Towards Electronically Assisted Peer Assessment: A Case
Study", ALT-J (Volume 9, Number 1, April 2001) pp26--37.


1) (printer error) page 26, under the title: 'email: abhir*r*@dcs'... - has
   the extra starred "r".  It should be 'abhir@dcs.warwick.ac.uk'.  Could
   we also add my email address 'ashley@dcs.warwick.ac.uk', as per our
   original?

2) (copy edit error) page 27, end of second paragraph: '...sessions are
   graded by spot-tests or marking of lab books (sometimes as an incentive
   for attendance) to make sure...'.  The parentheses were added during
   copy editing, but I believe they are incorrect.  The sentence should
   read '...sessions are grade by spot-tests or marking of lab books:
   sometimes as an incentive for attendance, to make sure that...' as per
   our original (parentheses give the first item in this list more
   attention than the others - really the items in this list are of equal
   priority).

3) (author error) page 28, half-way through last paragraph: please insert
   text between stars here '...read as well as write code, which is a vital
   skill since *in the industry* few programs are written entirely from
   scratch.'.

4) (printer error) page 29, the figure, and all other figures.  On our
   copy, all imported images have been given a border.  Presumably this is
   just an artifact of the proofing printout - they should not appear in
   the final version (although note that some images should have intended
   borders right against the image as I explain in point 10 below).

5) (printer error) page 29, the figure caption, and all other figure
   captions.  As the copy editor has marked, there is not enough space
   between some words.  This seems to me to result particularly from the
   use of the letter 'T' at the start of a sentence, and I'd suggest that
   the kerning needs to be adjusted for the italic font.

6) (copy edit error?) page 29, figure caption and second paragraph and
   probably throughout the paper: the word 'web' has been capitalised.  I
   believe that in the context of the World Wide Web, and the Internet,
   this would be appropriate as they are proper nouns and there is, by
   definition, only one Internet.  However in the context of this paper,
   the web pages are in general not accessible outside of our University,
   and so they are not part of /the/ Web, so perhaps lower case "web" would
   be more appropriate.

7) (author error) page 30, second line of second paragraph.  "...under the
   regulations of the university..." - please capitalise the word
   "University".

8) (author error) page 31, second line of first paragraph.  "...open-ended
   questions during a *given* test (Figure 3)...".  Please remove the
   starred word "given".

9) (author error) page 31, first line of second paragraph.  Please insert
   the words between stars: "we were particularly keen to mimic the *useful
   features of the* paper system where possible".

10) (printer error?) page 32, Figure 4, left image and all other
    screen-shot figures.  Borders were used in the original to show when a
    screen-shot has been split.  Figure 4, left should have borders at
    left, top and right (this last one is not clear on my copy).  Figure 4,
    right, should have borders at left, bottom, right.  Where a screenshot
    has not been split (eg Figure 5), borders should be used on all four
    edges.

11) (author error) page 33, Figure 7 caption, end of: "...learners who have
    done this test so far (there are approximately another 80 learners
    still to complete this test at this point in time).".  Please remove
    the parentheses and make it a separate sentence: "...learners who have
    done this test so far.  There are approximately another 80 learners
    still to complete this test at this point in time.".

12) (author error) page 34, top line - please insert the word between stars
    "...of the answer and *give* possible suggestions on where they thought
    the learner had gone wrong (Figure 4).".

13) (author error) page 34, line three - please insert comma between stars
    "At any time*,* a tutor can view...".

14) (author error) page 34, second paragraph, line five: "...following
    online worksheets and problem-solving using template..." - please
    remove the word 'and' and insert a comma, correcting to "...following
    online worksheets, problem-solving using template...".

15) (author error) page 34, Table 1.  In table header, after '2001-01',
    please insert "(estimates)" to denote that the right column gives
    estimated figures.

16) (copy edit error) page 34, Table 1 caption and also in the text in the
    same page, bottom paragraph, line four.  "person/weeks" has been
    modified to "people/weeks".  We would prefer the original
    "person/weeks" if possible (I believe that both halves should be
    singular, then the plural is applied to both parts at once).

17) (author error) page 34, last paragraph, three lines up from the bottom
    - please add the word between stars: "... when the staff time will
    require *only* a small amount of time...".

18) (author error) page 35, line four.  Please insert comma between stars:
    "... (in fact, it is zero for the MCQ questions*,* which are
    auto-marked).".

19) (author error) page 35, line five: "... feedback interface, but next
    year it should be at...".  Please replace "next year" with "in 2000-1",
    making the text "... feedback interface, but in 2000-1 it should be
    at...".

20) (author error) page 35, line six: "... (dependent simply on the
    timetable logistics).".  Please remove the word "simply".

21) (author error) page 35, first line of second paragraph:
    "...questionnaire to gauge the perception and experience of the
    learners toward the online assessment system.".  Please insert
    "learners'" and delete "the learners toward" to make the text
    "...questionnaire to gauge the learners' perception and experience of
    the online assessment system.".

23) (copy edit error?) page 35, second line of third paragraph:
    "... correlations between the students*,* learning approach...".
    Please change the comma marked with a star to an apostrophe, leaving
    "... correlations between the students' learning approach...".

24) (author error) page 35, second line of third paragraph: "... their lab
    results *and* their perception of...".  Please remove the starred "and"
    and replace with a comma, leaving "... their lab results, their
    perception of...".

25) (author error) page 35, third line of third paragraph: "...and *the*
    overall achievement in the final examination."  Please replace the
    starred "the" with "their".

26) (printer error) page 35, Table 2.  Could the second column be shifted
    to the right by say 5mm, increasing the space between columns?

27) (printer error) page 35, Table 2.  Data in second column: "Yes 90%, No
    10%" should be one line higher, making it level with "When marking" in
    the first column.

28) (author error) page 35, Table 2 caption, line one.  "... post lab
    session questionnaire.  Learners who stated...".  Please insert "Other
    findings include that" at the start of sentence two and change
    "Learners" to lower case, leaving "... post lab session questionnaire.
    Other findings include that learners who stated...".

29) (printer error) page 36, Figure 8.  Figure 8 seems rather too large:
    the text within the figure is intended to be approximately the same
    point size as the body text.

30) (author error) page 36, paragraph two, bottom line.  "We do not
    anticipate these problems in this academic year and aim...".  Please
    remove the word "this" and add "2000-1", leaving "We do not anticipate
    these problems in academic year 2000-1 and aim...".
